The purpose of CALEA's Accreditation Program is to improve the delivery of public safety services, primarily by
Maintaining a body of standards, developed by public safety practitioners, covering a wide range of up-to-date public safety initiatives
Establishing and administering an accreditation process; and recognizing professional excellence
The department was awarded reaccreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) in November 2016.
Mayor Bob Andeweg, the departments previous Chief Ross McCarty, and the department’s previous accreditation manager Captain Rob Johansen received the award on behalf of the community and the police department.
The award of accreditation represents agency commitment to professional excellence. It also represents an ongoing obligation to continue the quest for excellence by achieving compliance to all applicable standards and any future standards promulgated by CALEA.
Urbandale Police Department is proud to join the other Iowa agencies holding CALEA accreditation:
Iowa City Police
Iowa Department of Public Safety
Marshall County Sheriff’s Office
Sioux City Police
West Des Moines Police
The Department will now strive to maintain compliance to the CALEA standards during the next 4 year cycle in preparation for our second re-accreditation review in 2020.
