Participants of this academy will learn about the History of the Fire Service and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the roles that Firefighter/EMTs serve in the community today. The Academy consists of three, four-hour days.
Topics that will be covered include: fire prevention, first aid, firefighting and rescue, daily duties of Firefighter/EMTs, and requirements to become a Firefighter/EMT. The last day of the Academy will include several “hands on” activities utilizing a variety of equipment the Urbandale Fire Department has.
Requirements to participate: Be between 8-15 years old and live and/or go to school in Urbandale. Participants will receive a Fire Academy t-shirt and have lunch with Firefighters on the last day of the Academy.
